Art History Babes

summary

Some of art history's most celebrated women, through a millennial lens.

Art History Babes
A fun series celebrating some of the art world's most heralded women, with a little help from the way we talk now.

Each poster pairs an artist's own work with a phrase she'd have earned: Artemisia Gentileschi's self-portrait says "Be that girl." Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun's portrait of Marie Antoinette says "Queen shit." Cindy Sherman, who made a career of casting herself, gets "Main character." And Marina Abramović on a white horse says "Get in, loser."

The system is deliberately simple: oversized, tightly stacked type in one acid green over the artwork, the artist's name small in the corner, and a four-point sparkle in place of the period.

Four posters in acid green type over artworks: Be that girl over Artemisia Gentileschi's self-portrait, Queen shit over Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun's Marie Antoinette, Main character over Cindy Sherman, and Get in, loser over Marina Abramović on a white horse

Concept and design by me. Artworks by the artists named.

Let's Talk

I do my best work where strategy and craft have to meet: a clear idea, a team that cares, and details that hold up under a closer look.
